Umbilical Tissue Allograft: A Promising Alternative Therapy for Joint Pain And Inflammation

By: Alison Steinhice B.S., CHES

Reviewed By: Dr. Kirti Kalidas M.D., N.D.

Joint pain and inflammation (often caused by conditions like arthritis, osteoporosis, degenerative joint diseases, and injuries such as torn meniscus, frozen shoulder, and minor tears) significantly impact the quality of life for millions of people daily. Conventional treatments such as surgery and medication can be helpful but also come with side effects and risks. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) alternative therapies have emerged as a promising alternative to traditional treatments, offering potential relief and repair to damaged tissue.

PRP alternative therapy involves using umbilical tissue allograft to treat various injuries and other medical conditions. The umbilical tissue products are unique because they are derived from the body’s own stem cells and can differentiate into cartilage, bone, or muscle cells.  Once the allograft is introduced to the body it targets areas of injury and degeneration which would potentially reduce inflammation, promote regeneration, and aid with proper function of joints.

This alternative method of treatment offers many benefits to individuals suffering from joint pain and inflammation including:

  • Minimally invasive: This treatment option utilizes injections, leading to shorter recovery and fewer complications compared to surgical methods
  • Naturally healing: As allografts are derived from the body’s own stem cells, this therapy is considered safe and well-tolerated, with minimal risk of adverse reactions or complications.
  • Pain relief and improved function: Many patients report significant pain relief and improved function following the PRP alternative therapy.

Conditions that could benefit from umbilical tissue products:

  • ACL tears
  • Ankle tears
  • Balding
  • Torn rotator cuff
  • Hair loss
  • Joint pain/inflammation
  • Neurodegeneration
  • Torn meniscus
  • Viral infection
